We have achieved another year of record sales growth even though you might not have ever heard about us. We operate from 21 small to large format discount stores across the North West and Yorkshire.
Its hard work managing one of our stores…
Our stores are very fast paced with large volumes of products coming in and out of the store every day. This is the biggest element new Store Managers who join us struggle with, the sheer volume of trade and the pace we work at. It’s challenging as you must manage your team of up to 60 people and decide where to put the stock (We don’t really do planograms.) and of course keep those plates spinning!
We don’t let you spend lots of time in the office in fact 90% of your time will be on the shop floor providing a great set of standards, great service and great merchandising.
It is your role to lead and develop your staff using our training guides and career progression tools.
You will have to work stock and people manage at the same time…
Every Store Manager gets their hands dirty no matter how big a team they manage, they work stock with their teams, they clean and tidy and they jump on the tills to reduce queues and manage the building at the same time!
We run our operations and manage all costs tightly to keep our prices low, if you can’t or won’t roll your sleeves up and join in its not the place for you.
You must be independent…
We provide great Store Manager training, but we don’t spoon feed you, we expect you to seek out information and help and then use this to get on with the day job. We will help anyone who needs it and your Area Manager visits your store weekly and is always available to contact for support, but also its your business to manage and we give you the autonomy to make all the big decisions that are going to make your store a success…or not!
The achievements are yours, all based on your talent!
You must be commercial…
At the end of the day our business is all about sales and costs. We operate at the lowest possible cost and sell at the lowest possible price. You will know your customers better than anyone else that’s why you have the autonomy to pick winning products and promote them in your store either on our promotional space or proactively selling them to our customers at the cash desks.
We are a friendly team…
We are still run on a friendly basis and on family values, but we do tell it like it is! We don’t sugar coat anything and we always share good and bad issues throughout the team so we can improve our performance.
If you have a good idea and it works we tell everyone it was your idea and adopt it quickly throughout the business. You are a name (and an important one) not a number!

That’s the reality of being a smaller player in a low-cost discount retail world. But we pay fairly and offer a good performance bonus and lots of incentives throughout the year. Three of our Area Managers have progressed from the shop floor so there is plenty of opportunity to stand out and progress
We believe in the old saying work smarter not harder! 80% of our stores close by 6pm, and we only open Bank Holidays and Sundays if we think we can make a profit, so not all our stores do this based on our lowest cost operating principle.
